When Art Becomes Real(ish)

My sci-fi alter ego speaks….

sarahmichellelynch's avatarS. M. Lynch

Journalists (in my experience) tend to have amazing recall, a head for general knowledge and details, a massive awareness of culture and politics. We have to be all-rounders. Able to write but also able to analyse objectively, check facts (not get away from ourselves on a creative tangent) and basically, write what’s true and not be blasé about certain subjects, treating all we do with utmost care. Most journalists I’ve met are people who have BIG INTERESTS in real life, too. Whether that’s angling, music, film, travel, maybe even knitting… a lot of journos I know have started off mainstream but then gone into a niche field they’re interested in, therefore making a hobby a profession. I made creative writing my profession five years ago now. There are two people in me: the journo and the novelist; the fact-checker and the pantser. To be honest it’s really hard to separate…

The Risk, Nightlong #3, Releases APRIL 4th

nightlong3

The highly evocative Nightlong series concludes . . .

Love may be the greatest risk

The harshest lesson, or

The sweetest salve.

Love may also be the one

True way to overcome

Pain,

Sadness,

All of our grief.

I want to chase love

But the risks in this instance

Are massive and the odds

Favour no one.

Doom seems our fate,

Tragedy looms, inevitable

Murder taints the air we breathe.

Will love triumph?

Or was this never about love . . .

Dear readers,

To prevent spoilers I’m being extremely cagey about this book.

That’s because I want readers to experience this book with no preconceptions whatsoever.

What I’ll say is…

The Risk is a love story.

But is also has a very dark side…

A new year, new books . . .

dark-background-with-golden-numbers-for-new-year_1035-54382017 is here!

2016 is out… and a new year is definitely in. I don’t really believe in new year’s resolutions because any time is a chance to make changes but I think I’ll definitely be eating beans on toast a few times in January to combat all the rich food I’ve enjoyed over the festive period! I spent a fair few days with my husband and daughter lounging around in pyjamas, ate loads of mince pies and drank plenty of nice drinks. Whatever you did, I hope it was a good one!

2017 is a massive year for the city of Hull, which I live on the outskirts of. Hull is UK City of Culture this year and things kicked off with a massive fireworks display and an installation called Made in Hull (see image). I’ve featured Hull in one or two of my books (click here) and it’s an exciting time for our area. We already have our tickets for The Hypocrite starring Mark Addy and Caroline Quentin!! Hopefully I’ll be able to sneak out of the writing cave to enjoy a few afternoons of culture this year.

In 2016 I published five novels and edited a few others for clients, too. It was a busy and productive year but there is much more yet to come!

Fans of the Nightlong Series will be pleased to know I will be publishing another Nightlong book in April this year. The third instalment is called The Risk and more details will be available very soon, including pre-order etc. The Risk is the last book in the series and has been completed but is now being edited. I was going to write four books in total but three seems more appropriate and will pack more of a punch. Besides, I have a fair few WIPs in the queue waiting to be written.

After The Risk, I hope to release at least two more novels this year. I don’t like telling people about what I’m writing until I’m entirely sure I can write the whole thing (and that the idea works) but I am happy to give some vague details . . .

After writing several erotic stories with thrilling elements, I’m working on a story of contemporary fiction featuring a very unique and different pairing. It’s going to be emotional and soul-enriching.

I am also working on another spin-off to the Sub Rosa series featuring a character we’ve already met. In fact I’ve got several Sub Rosa spin-offs queued up but some of them will need me to be in a certain mood to write them.

I also have a few secret projects (exciting) in the works but I’m keeping these under my hat until something comes of them.

To keep up to date with details on The Risk, either follow this blog or subscribe to my newsletter here. The Risk will draw a number of threads together and deliver a very satisfying ending, but I won’t pretend the journey there will be easy.

Don’t forget to check out Break the Cycle, my latest charity anthology. You can order signed copies from this website. In fact you can order any of my books – signed – from this site! Check out the section (above).

So it’s back to the writing cave I go . . .

Stay warm and safe,

Christmas Lovers, an erotic novella for the festive season . . .

clovers

Blurb:

A scorching hot companion to Tainted Lovers . . .

Adrienne expects her annual work’s Christmas party to be as dull as usual. A six-course meal and cases of champagne, dozens of government people all in the same banquet room, her dashing husband by her side… it all sounds pretty straightforward.

It’s just a pity that someone at the Christmas party recognises her husband and all for the wrong reasons. Will it ruin their private time away from the kids, or reinvigorate their sex life in a new, unexpected way?

This decadent, dark companion novella to Tainted Lovers is pure erotica, proving true passion transcends even the most diabolical of coincidences.

***This novella contains MAJOR PLOT SPOILERS for Tainted Lovers. It is recommended you read the novel first.***

Excerpt:

I’m utterly disgusted and absolutely mortified. At the dinner table finally, we’re only sat opposite the girl who allegedly saw David in a porn movie! When she catches sight of him so close up, she actually begins pouring with sweat and drinking vast amounts of water.

“I want a seat somewhere else,” I demand of my husband.

“Look at the place, we’re packed in as it is. No way are they gonna let us swap seats now, not when allergies have been accounted for and all our menu choices stamped on the backs of the waiter’s heads, otherwise we could have blowfish city on our consciences tonight. I’m told the first course is bouillabaisse and Mika has a fish allergy. He could be hospitalised tonight if we move.”

I groan, and realise I better just deal with it.

Trouble is I don’t even want to flirt with David to make her squirm.

So maybe I’ll just make him squirm instead…

He holds up his hands. “Just gossip I heard at the urinals, that’s all.”

“I told you not to use those but use the cubicles. You always get blokes trying to look, as if they know… like they think they know… and they want to confirm it.”

David strokes a long finger up the length of my arm, from the inside of my wrist to my shoulder.

“There was a queue for the cubicles. It sounded as though Jerry and Jeremy were practising baby making. Look at them…”

I look down the table and realise David’s right! They’ve been screwing in the bathroom before dinner.

“They wouldn’t!”

“An amuse-bouche, perhaps,” my other half suggests.

“Quite frankly, I have never done such a thing before in my life!” I protest, for the benefit of any weak-hearted Christian earwiggers nearby, but when David’s hand squeezes my thigh under the table, I remember that I have – many times, of course.

COMING SOON: Christmas Lovers, A Novella

I’ve written a few books this year but one I have had some strong reactions to is Tainted Lovers. It is a difficult read in some respects, maybe even torturous. Some readers called me cruel and even, evil!! I took those comments as compliments. It’s better to get strong reactions than no reaction at all.

Tainted Lovers was painful to write and tells the story of one couple who seem like any other couple to begin with. They fall madly in love and it seems as simple as that. But life has a funny way of working out sometimes…

Women readers who were in abusive relationships in the past wrote to me to say they found Tainted Lovers cathartic and en pointe. Those were probably some of my proudest moments as a writer – to know I had touched people in real life.

So Christmas Lovers is for those people who read Tainted Lovers and forgave me anyway. It’s written to be read after the novel and it is a small companion book of healing and an extended epilogue I guess. Sprinkled with a bit of Christmas magic, it is a book to reassure you that Adrienne is well on the way to full recovery.

I loved and loathed writing Tainted Lovers. I almost didn’t write it but the true artist in me wouldn’t give up on something I had started with the intent to finish. I had to finish writing Tainted Lovers, no matter the cost. Hopefully this companion will be as much of an unexpected treat for others as it has been for me.

The book will release DECEMBER 1ST at a price off 99 pennies but there will be no pre-order. It will release on the day. Enjoy xx

The most beautiful anti-romance you might read all year . . .

Adrienne and David meet in a library and the rest is history. Leaving their past lives behind, they race off to get married and make a promise of undying love. Waiting in the wings, however, are dark and deadly secrets threatening to tear them apart.

Their passion has never been up for question – but is there a limit to what love can overcome? Moreover, what does the future hold for Adrienne after she has her heart crushed, her spirit broken and her resolve disintegrated?

Are all great love stories destined to end badly . . . ?

Suitable for readers 18+ only. Tainted Lovers is a complete standalone novel.

break_the_cycle_an__cover_for_kindleTo coincide with National Anti-Bullying Week in the UK, 14 writers have come together to write about bullying from a variety of perspectives. We think this is still an issue that needs more of a spotlight – now more than ever unfortunately. Forget what you read in the media, these stories will tell you what is really going on in schools, behind closed doors and in places you never thought to look. The pressures our social workers face when it comes to bullying and abuse are immense but it doesn’t stop there. Sometimes bullying gets brought to the attention of head teachers, or the police, then the parents (of both the bully and bullied). Maybe a friend steps in. Maybe a stranger steps in. Or even a family pet. So many people are affected by the malicious acts of one or more instigators and the cycle threatens to repeat.

Perhaps, bullying doesn’t stop though. Ever. Maybe it ends in death. Maybe we can’t break the cycle, or can we? Perhaps bullying isn’t straightforward; maybe it’s sometimes mistaken for jest. You really need to read on… because bullying isn’t an issue limited to childhood. It’s all around us and sometimes escalates into devastating abuse. Sometimes it’s verbal, sometimes physical, maybe even both, but whichever form it comes in, it always has an impact. These stories might make you reach out to a certain person in your life you’ve never really questioned until now – because most victims are still suffering in silence. This is for them.
